August 2025 Counter-Mapping Challenge
Counter-cartography aims to shake up the normative way of mapping and representing our world. For the August challenge, we want to encourage anyone living, working, or simply spending time in port areas to think about how they use and/or see this space.
How do you move through the port city territory? Is it easy? Prohibited? Is it a space you want to explore? Or rather avoid? How would you recreate it if you could? What perspective do you choose? Analytical? Historical? Vacation time curiosity?
Find below the counter-map contributions by port city territory frequenters from all over the world!

Visual Documentation:
Mapping Changes in Rotterdam
Roger Anis is a documentary photographer and visual researcher based in the Netherlands. For PACT Roger ventured out to explore and capture the success stories, as well as challenges, around the hydrogen development in the port of Rotterdam. He plans on using this as a starting point to to tell a visual story of the energy transition taking place in Rotterdam and expanding beyond.

Mapping Lisbon
One of PACT's six pilots is Lisbon. To become familiar with this port city territory, Pedro Garcia and Matej Zahatnansky prepared spatial visualizations based on their research with key information about the place.
